Lexus Tariff Information for Shoppers
With the recent changes in United States' tariff policy, you’re likely wondering about what it could mean for you when you shop at Pohanka Lexus. We’ll inform you with a basic overview of what a tariff is and what their current projections could look like. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have regarding this.
What is a Tariff?
A tariff is a form of tax that is imposed by a government on imported goods. They have existed and have been used by worldwide for a long period of time. Typically, the tax is paid by the exporting country or business to the importing country. On March 26th, 2025, the U.S. Government altered its policies and put in action a 25% tariff on the import of vehicles and certain automobile parts on top of the already existing 2.5% rate. This is an ad valorem tariff which essentially means that it’s a fixed percentage of the value of the item. This will apply to any passenger vehicles like sedans, SUVs, minivans, or light trucks. It will also be applied to imported parts like engines, suspensions, and electrical components.
What Does the Recent AutoTariff Change Mean for Lexus Shoppers?
You may be wondering if this will impact your search for a new Lexus vehicle, like an ES, RX, or NX. Overall, prices shouldn’t change largely through April and May as the current stock in most dealerships will not be touched by the tariffs as well as pre-owned vehicles. But by June and July, dealerships like ours will likely start to import newer stock that could potentially have higher prices. Vehicles produced in America will likely be unaffected, but if they rely on imported parts then there could be a change. If you’re searching for a used Lexus vehicle, then the prices shouldn’t be affected since the stock is already within the country. The tariffs and their details are subject to change in the coming weeks or even months.
