Lexus vehicles are known for their overall quality, especially on the interiors. This is true of the SUVs produced by this automaker. Both the Lexus LX and GX models are big, roomy, powerful machines. Some buyers may wonder why Lexus makes both models as it would seem that they actually compete with each other. The differences are subtle and mostly have to do with available power, seating configuration, and optional equipment.

Both models are good choices for those who plan on doing more than just a bit of off-roading. The 2018 Lexus LX, more commonly referred to as the LX 570, was designed to meet the challenges faced when the pavement comes to an end. The 2018 Lexus GX, also known as the GX 460, is a bit more luxury-oriented on the inside, and its truck-like construction appeals to many. Continue reading for a more in-depth look at both models.

Performance

The 2018 Lexus LX is powered by a 5.7L V8. Its 383-horsepower output is more than enough to get this big machine up to freeway speed. Transmission is eight-speed automatic, and power is sent to all four wheels. The LX comes with an adaptive suspension system with load leveling. Crawl Control is a low-speed cruise control mechanism, and Multi-Terrain Select offers various off-road settings. Hill start assist is also standard. The total of 403 lb-ft of torque is certainly welcome in the low gear range. The 2018 Lexus GX comes with a 4.6L V8 rated at 301 horsepower. The engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive is standard. The suspension allows for flat cornering on mountain roads, and the vehicle is very resistant to crosswinds.

Interior

The 2018 Lexus LX boasts a big interior with seating for up to eight. The front seats are heated and ventilated, and the second-row seating is 40/20/40-split. These seats are folding, sliding, and reclining, and they are also heated. The third row is big enough for three small kids. This rear seat folds up against the cargo area and is power-operated. All seats are leather, but buyers have the option of upgrading the leather quality and include contrast stitching. The 2018 Lexus GX model boasts the same second- and third-row seat adjustment, namely sliding and reclining. It should be noted that the Luxury trim replaces the second-row bench with captain's chairs. The LX comes with four-zone climate control, and the GX features a tri-zone system.

Features

Buyers won't find themselves wanting for standard features on the 2018 Lexus LX SUV. Standard features include a sunroof, leather upholstery, driver seat memory settings, and multi-view parking cameras. Infotainment features include a 12.3-inch screen display and a nine-speaker stereo. There's the option of a rear entertainment system and a 19-speaker Mark Levinson sound system. The 2018 Lexus GX is adorned with a power-adjustable steering column, two USB ports, satellite radio, and Bluetooth. Leather seating is optional. Both models feature the full array of active and passive safety systems.
