A compact luxury sedan complete with all the trimmings, the Lexus NX will appeal to those who want a smaller vehicle that's fun to drive, has plenty of power, and comes loaded with the most sought after convenience features. A step up from the run-of-the-mill commuter compacts, the 2019 Lexus NX boasts a comfortable ride, quiet interior, and a complete safety suite that's standard on all trims. Although the name of this model has changed from previous years, the build quality, exterior look, and power source remain the same.

Base Trim NX 300

This is the new name for what was until now branded the 200t model. It's basically a carryover for 2019, so there aren't many changes to the design or interior features. That's a good thing because, in this case, change is totally unnecessary. Once you climb aboard, you'll see why this is no base trim in the usual sense of the term.

Standard Features

• A 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 235 horsepower

• An 8-inch screen display and touchpad interface

You also get simulated leather upholstery, split folding and reclining rear seatbacks, and nice exterior features including LED headlights and LED running lights and foglights. The standard wheel size is 17 inches. Front-wheel drive is standard, but you can purchase this and the other trims with all-wheel drive if you wish.

NX200t Sport Trim

The uplevel trim of the 2019 Lexus NX 300 carries on with the older model name, and it boasts a few exciting upgrades. It's powered by the same turbocharged engine and offers the same transmission, but there are a few additional interior refinements. A wider choice of interior trim accents and upholstery color schemes are available. Most of the specific feature upgrades are on the exterior:

• 18-inch wheels
• Exterior styling elements
• A sport-tuned suspension
• A sunroof when an options package is chosen

The interior is pretty much the same as the base trim except for the trim accents. You do get a sport-design steering wheel, sporty instrument gauges, and more aggressively bolstered front seats. All of this comes at a minimal price increase.

NX 300h Trim

This is the hybrid version of the 2019 Lexus NX. It's built on the same platform and looks the same on the outside as the gasoline-powered model, but it's slightly heavier because of the battery pack. It produces a bit less horsepower but is still more than adequate to get you and the family around town in style. The 2019 NX 300h comes with:

• A 2.5L gasoline engine paired to an electric motor
• A combined 194-horsepower output
• 17-inch wheels
• All-wheel drive and continuously variable transmission
• Keyless entry and ignition

As with the gas-powered versions, this model comes with the full safety suite as standard equipment, a real selling point of this affordable hybrid. The safety systems include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and mitigation, lane departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. The interior is similar to that of the base model NX 300 described above.
